Gürkan Maruf Mıhçı’s artworks are inspired by science, politics, and ecology. Mıhçı merges these concepts to create imaginary worlds, games, satires, and visualizations.

BIO:

Gürkan Maruf Mıhçı is a media artist and assistant professor at IUI Herron School of Art and Design. 

He is one of the recipients of the 2023 DeHaan Artist of Distinction award, IUPUI EMPOWER, and IAHI Fellowship funding. The Herron School of Art and Design Frank C. Springer Family Innovative Faculty Research Award and IU Presidential Arts and Humanities also awarded his recent research.

He has his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Graphic Design (Bilkent University) and a Master of Arts in Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design (Sabanci University) with a concentration in Audio Visual Noise and Glitch. After he graduated, he taught communication design and foundation of art classes at Kadir Has University and Izmir University of Economics for nine years. He has his Ph.D. in Design, Technology, and Society at the Istanbul Institute of Design (Ozyegin University). He also has a Central European University Graduate Certificate in Culture and Politics and the Maker Teacher Certificate in Robotics and 3D Printing.
